Primary Tuition (KS1/KS2)

Having taught at various primary schools for over 30 years, I have a thorough working knowledge of teaching objectives in Literacy and Numeracy for all year groups from Reception to Year 6 and target setting at appropriate levels.

I have worked with children of all abilities, teaching to whole classes, small groups and in one-to-one situations.

It is always satisfying to be able to devote time and see the 'penny drop' when a child grasps a concept which they previously found difficult and to see children make rapid progress over a relatively short period of time after receiving individual attention.
 

Does your child lack confidence in basic Maths or English?

I have the experience and access to resources needed to help revise and confirm required knowledge of key concepts necessary to help children develop and move on.
 

Are there gaps in your child's learning/subject knowledge?

This can happen for a variety of reasons, such as absences or perhaps certain objectives were introduced in class before the child was ready for them or had properly understood the previous step. It can also be that some children need a more practical kinaesthetic approach to learning, for example using maths equipment to solve problems in a more practical way.
 

Does your child appear to be de-motivated?

If a child's progress seems to have come to a standstill, or motivation has been lost in reading or writing, I am always keen to find a way to re-enthuse him/her, usually by discovering more about the individual child and what makes them tick.
 

How I can help

It may seem obvious, but give children something which interests them and they are much more likely to want to read/write about it if they find it interesting and fun, which is how learning should always be.

Some pupils need extra support with phonics to develop their reading skills, spelling and pronunciation of sounds, or help and encouragement with different kinds of written activities to improve handwriting, composition or comprehension skills.
